WHAT’S ON

Stuntworld Stunt Show

Performing in the main arena will be StuntWorld Stunt Show – they will be performing a mix of motorcycle stunts, quad stunts, car 2 wheel driving and roll over quad stunts.

Stuntworld, the most experienced and longest running Stunt Team in Great Britain, established in 1969 by James Dylan. A new team leader and a brand-new style stunt show with the latest motorcycles, rollover quad and rollover motorbike and not forgetting the two-wheel drive jeep.

2019 was the start of a new era for Stuntworld International, following the retirement of James Dylan after 50 years in the industry, the team has been taken over and revamped by Mark Stannage who himself started his own career with Stuntworld in 1984. Gone are the black burn marks left on the arena, the only thing we leave now is the lasting memory of witnessing the most amazing and newest show in Britain.

Stuntworld have performed all over the world and have accumulated five world records on its way, Stuntworld is a team of the most unbelievable and talented riders that will amaze you with their skills.

The Team perform two thirty-minute shows that include Ramp Jumps, Wheelies, Stoppies, Quad Stunts, Rollover Motorbike, Rollover Quad, Two Wheel drive Jeep and many more remarkable stunts that need to be seen to be believed. All this around a central core of hilarious banter from the commentator. This show always draws the biggest crowds and there is nothing the riders like more than hearing the audience cheering, clapping and shouting for more!

The Sheep Show

The Sheep Show is Edutainment at its best.

A live stage show presented in humorous kiwi style, will introduce you to 9 different breeds of sheep, each with a story to tell and even their own theme tune, for example ‘Lenny the Lincoln Long Wool’ arrives to a great Bob Marley tune (very apt for a sheep that has natural dreadlocks!).

What follows is a very informative shearing display where you will learn much more about sheep and wool. To add to this already entertaining and educational show, the sheep team then do “The Sheep Show Shuffle”.. yes, you may just witness dancing sheep!

‘The Sheep Show’ will have 3 demonstrations approximately 40 minutes each per day.

Ye Olde Redtail Falconry

New to this event, Ye Olde Redtail Falconry has been giving professional falconry displays for over thirty years and has an extremely accomplished history of past performances.

Their flying displays are full of audience participation, and they showcase the natural attributes and abilities of the birds; how they live, fly and hunt in their natural habitat.  This is all expertly narrated and set to music which has been specifically chosen to suit each bird and provides an exciting interlude for the whole family to enjoy.

They will appear in the arena for two performances each day each lasting 30 minutes and you are welcome to visit their static display and other displays of falconry for an interactive experience with these birds throughout the day.

Dog and Duck Show

As one of the most popular dog displays in the country, the Dog and Duck Show team work extremely hard to educate the public about dog behaviour in a fun and enjoyable way for both the animals and owners. By using energy and body language, they show the audience how to control their sheep dogs at different stages of their training, while demonstrating simple techniques to help with common dog behaviour issues.

The Dog and Duck Show display is divided into three parts:

Part One – Dog Psychology: Helping to understand why our dogs have unwanted dog problems and how to solve them.

Part Two – Natural Instincts: The team uses sheep dogs at different stages of training, with Indian Runner ducks, to show their natural canine instincts. The dogs are controlled by using their natural language (energy and body language), and it is demonstrated how they are trained to their commands.

Part Three – Dogs in Action: Collie dogs put the ducks around their course of tunnels, slides, maltese cross, pool and pen, which always leaves the crowd in awe of the skills and obedience of working dogs.

Children's Sand Art Workshops

Sand Art is an experience, rather than just a product. We provide a fun and exciting way to entertain both children and adults. With our SandArtNW activity stations, children get hands on to create amazing pictures with brightly coloured sand. We then put the finished picture in a sleeve and the participant can take it home with them.

SandArtNW picture workshops are entertaining, educational, and inspiring whilst they encourage creativity, imagination, concentration, artistic abilities and also help to develop fine motor skills. SandArtNW picture workshops are fully inclusive and are especially suitable for children with disabilities and special needs to enjoy an activity alongside everyone else.

Mounted Games Association

Two Main Arena Competitions each day – The Mounted Games Association display provides thrilling, fast-moving, family entertainment.

Teams of young riders on very fast ponies compete in a variety of obstacle and relay type races.  The speed of the ponies and the skill of the riders are breathtaking and combine to produce a colourful, all-action arena display. Members of the audience are invited to support their local team as points are awarded for each game, giving a competitive edge to the entertainment.

The Association was founded in 1984 with just seven teams –hence the theme music is ‘The Magnificent Seven’.

Air Rifle Range

Organised by Erik Aaron Shooting.

A field target range for all ages.

Simon Whitehead and his Pakefield Ferrets

Simon Whitehead and his Pakefield Ferrets can be seen across the length and breadth of the country during the busy show season. He is a unique character in modern day Britain; a traditional warrener and author of many books including the acclaimed Ahead of the Game.

Simon has demonstrated at many major events and currently performs at over thirty shows ranging from small village green events to game fairs and everything in between. His constantly evolving arena demonstrations are ranked amongst the most entertaining, amusing and educational on the UK show circuit.

See thirty minutes of action-packed, unscripted drama as he recounts the ferrets’ journey. Often copied but never bettered, this demonstration by a team who earn their living “rabbiting” remains unequalled, as Simon definitely puts the “ferret” back into ferreting.

Not content with supplying a first-class act in the arena he also delivers a static display through which Simon educates the world about the ferret, the rabbit and how the entwined relationship between the two has played out over the years.  Photographs, illustrations and a TV screen illustrate the craft he relies on to provide food, shelter and clothing for his family. In short, the art of ferreting and the welfare of working ferrets are explained in full.

In between demonstrations Simon, his ferrets and dogs are on hand for interaction with the public and the static display is always a hive of activity as there are many questions to be answered, ferrets to be held and stories to be told!  As ferreting is normally carried out in unsociable surroundings and often in solitude, Simon uses both the arena demonstrations and static display to explain and illustrate why ferreting, in the true sense of the word, is fast becoming  more sought after in the countryside and towns of the UK. The ferreter is the epitome of the organic and environmentally friendly hunter/gatherer and, as such, a supplier of first class organic, free range meat for the table.

The audience is encouraged to become part of the scene set by Simon as he illustrates how the team work together in a simulated day of ferreting which needs to be seen to be believed.  Appreciating the bond that unites the ferreter with his dog and ferrets along with their knowledge of the natural world and fieldcraft, enables them to become a part of nature as opposed to an intruder. Enthusiastic, energetic, amusing, educational and unforgettable all describe his commentary as he gets the audience to watch the ferreter work in tune with his animals.

The world is moving on, technology is changing our society, but it is refreshing to find Simon trying to not only make people realise and understand why we ferret but, more importantly, get newcomers into the countryside to continue such a fine tradition. Pakefield Ferrets’ display educates the wider community to this traditional craft that has survived the growth in technology, showing why their motto of “Ensuring the tradition of ferreting IS continued for further generations” is long remembered after the show has closed.

Two x 30 minutes arena demonstrations each day.

Flycasting with Hywel Morgan

Free tuition will take place at 1pm and 3pm daily at the side of the lake.

Hywel Morgan will also provide a demonstration in the Lakeside Arena at 12.00pm Saturday and 11.30am Sunday.

Having successfully competed for over 15 years in World and European casting competitions, Hywel has developed a keen eye for casting techniques and can iron out any faults you might have. His one-to-one half day casting clinics are proving very popular – the lesson is tailored to your requirements, whether it be single or double haul, single and double spey casting or, Hywel’s speciality, distance casting (where his personal best is over 80 metres).

Hywel is regularly asked to coach top casters who are preparing for an upcoming championship – so if you are a bank angler who wants those extra few yards, take a tip from the champions and book a lesson with Hywel!

If you have never tried flyfishing before then you can learn the basic casting technique in just a few hours. When you’re finished you’ll be a competent caster and have a working knowledge of all the tackle you need to start fishing on your own.

Perhaps you’ve already started and are having trouble with your casting… or maybe you’re baffled by terms like ‘single and double haul’, ‘snake rolls’ and ‘single and double spey’. Hywel will gear your lesson towards your specific needs. Whether it’s just the basic cast or distance casting, your lesson will cover it (and more) and will be conducted in a relaxed and enjoyable manner.

Ferret Show & Racing

Organised by The British Ferret Club

The British Ferret Club originally formed to raise the profile of ferrets in the public eye and encourage best practice in the keeping of ferrets. This includes ferret health welfare, nutrition, breeding, working ferrets, keeping ferrets as pets and using ferrets for pest control.

The Club was established in 2000 by Jim Lawley and his partner Fran Lawley-Jenkins with the intention of bringing together people who regard ferrets with respect and affection. The British Ferret Club has been exceptionally successful having a membership that covers a huge area of the British Isles from the South Coast to the Scottish Borders.

The Club continues to evolve with more show dates than ever before, their website continues to grow with more information and help and the committee, with a huge amount of help from the membership, continue to drive things forward. Jim and Fran are still members of the committee, Jim’s new title is now Honorary President and Founder Member and Fran has become Honorary Founder and Committee Member. They will continue to act as a guiding hand in the ethos of the Club.

Although Jim and Fran are stepping down from the day-to-day running of the Club, they will still attend some of the shows and Jim will continue to judge when his family commitments allow him! Dealing with the day-to-day running of the Club is Andy Handley Chairman and Show Event Organiser and Zoe Davies Secretary and Treasurer.

Static Displays of Birds of Prey

With displays of over 600 square metres this is probably one of the largest Birds of Prey Displays seen at a Country Fair.

The displays include: owls, falcons, hawks, eagles and vultures.

All of the displays offer you the opportunity to hold one of these magnificent birds.

Reptile Display

The reptiles display will have snakes, lizards, tortoise, pygmy hedgehog, cockroaches, millipedes and land snails.  Members of public will also have the opportunity to handle some of these interesting reptiles.

Tractor Pulling

Tractor pulling is regarded as one of the world’s most powerful motorsports due to the nature of the highly modified tractor-pullers that take part. The pullers drag a metal sled along the track. This sled contains a box filled with weight which is mechanically moved forward as the pull proceeds, making it progressively more difficult to pull.

When a tractor/puller gets to the end of the purpose built 100 metre track, this is known as a ‘full pull’. It is not only modified tractors which can attempt this, but also wagons, steam engines, military vehicles and even standard tractors. The success of the pull not only depends on the power of the vehicle but also the driver’s skill in converting power into traction/momentum to keep the sled moving forward to achieve the full pull.

Rural Crafts and Demonstrations

A number of rural craft demonstrators feature around the lakeside arena.  Including Leatherworkers, Willow Weavers, Bushcraft and a Blacksmith.

Vintage Tractor Display

Vintage and classic tractors on display from various manufacturers including John Deere, Massey Ferguson, Ford, David Brown, International, Leyland and Allis Chalmers plus others.  Together with the static display, the tractors take part in a main arena parade each day giving enthusiasts the opportunity to see them on the move.

Stationary engines are used to drive immobile machinery, such as pumps, generators, mills etc and a variety of these working engines will be on display. Some will have been made as early as 1900.

Also see the chainsaw carving, as works of art are created from a single piece of wood.

Vintage & Classic Car Display

Visit the Classic Car Section and see vintage and classic cars made from very early 1900 through to the 1970s, Wolseley, Rover, Morris, Jaguar, Austin, Buick, Chevrolet and many other makes including the very popular and the less well-known.  The cars also do a parade around the main arena each day.

Individual and Club entries welcome.
